From Brossard to Sainte-Julie by car or bus

Before visiting a new semi-detached home near Brossard, one question comes first: how long does it take to get there, and how? This guide covers the trip from Brossard to Sainte-Julie, all the way to Geoffrion Street, by car and by bus. Brossard has an uncommon advantage here: on weekdays, an exo bus route, the 600, connects it directly to the Sainte-Julie terminus.

Let's first be clear about what this trip is not: a way to get closer to Montreal. From Brossard city hall, Central Station is about 12.4 km away, roughly 15 minutes without traffic; from Geoffrion Street, it's 31.5 km, or about 32 minutes. This route mainly makes sense for people whose daily life happens on the South Shore, or who work from home.

Distances and times come from OSRM, a route planner built on OpenStreetMap, for clear roads; bus times come from exo's open data.

The quickest way: the A-10, the A-30, then the A-20

From city hall at 2001 Boulevard de Rome, the fastest route is 30.3 km long and takes about 27 minutes:

  1. a short stretch of Boulevard Taschereau (Route 134), then the ramp to Highway 10;
  2. the A-10, Autoroute des Cantons-de-l'Est, to exit 11, toward highways 30 and 20 East;
  3. the A-30 East, Autoroute de l'Acier, for about 14.4 km, to exit 83;
  4. the A-20 East, Autoroute Jean-Lesage, for about 6.3 km, to exit 105 (Route 229);
  5. Rue Bernard-Pilon, Montée des Quarante-Deux, Avenue des Bâtisseurs and, last of all, Geoffrion Street.

Along the way, you pass through Longueuil, Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville and Boucherville before entering Sainte-Julie. From Quartier DIX30, Boulevard du Quartier and Boulevard Leduc feed straight onto the A-30. Once you're off at exit 105, the signs for the Vallée-du-Richelieu golf club, then the BÉAcité signs, take it from there.

Through Longueuil, along the river

A second route skips Autoroute de l'Acier and follows the St. Lawrence:

  1. the A-10 westbound to exit 6, toward La Prairie and Varennes;
  2. Boulevard Marie-Victorin, then Autoroute René-Lévesque (A-20 and Route 132) for about 9.8 km along the riverbank;
  3. the A-20 East for about 14.9 km, to the same exit 105.

From city hall, this way covers 35.1 km and takes about 31 minutes, a few minutes more. From the REM's Panama station, though, it's the one the calculation picks: 33.2 km, about 28 minutes.

  • the REM's Brossard station, Boulevard de Rome: 28.5 km, about 26 minutes;

  • the REM's Panama station, Rue Philippines: 33.2 km, about 28 minutes, through Longueuil;
  • Mail Champlain, Boulevard Lapinière: 30.8 km, about 29 minutes.

In short, the drive from Brossard to Sainte-Julie takes roughly 24 to 31 minutes depending on where you set out, on clear roads. Heading back, Geoffrion Street is about 27 minutes from city hall via the A-20 West, exit 98 and the A-30 West.

By bus: route 600, Monday to Friday

Exo route 600, "Sainte-Julie – Terminus Brossard," leaves from platform 5 at the Brossard terminus, about 200 m as the crow flies from the REM's Brossard station; the actual walk between the two hasn't been measured. It makes just one stop along the way before the Sainte-Julie terminus.

  • to Sainte-Julie: 26 weekday departures, from 6:20 a.m. to 10:08 p.m., with a ride of 22 to 29 minutes;
  • to Brossard: 27 departures, from 5:50 a.m. to 9:35 p.m., taking 25 to 35 minutes;
  • Saturday and Sunday: no service.

These schedules, published by exo through January 3, 2027, are reduced over the holidays: check them before you go.

The last stretch: the T34 taxibus

From the Sainte-Julie terminus, the T34 taxibus, available on weekdays when booked ahead, takes 11 minutes to reach the des Pionniers / des Bâtisseurs stop, 90 m from Geoffrion Street. Counting transfers, allow 43 to 63 minutes from the Brossard terminus. An example worked out for a Monday: the 11:20 a.m. bus, then the 11:55 taxibus, drop you off at 12:06 p.m. The return trip takes 39 to 54 minutes: the 1:04 p.m. taxibus, for instance, meets the 1:20 bus, in Brossard by 1:45.

What about weekends?

Neither route 600 nor the T34 runs on Saturday or Sunday. A route does link the Longueuil terminus to Sainte-Julie on those days, but the connection from Brossard hasn't been checked: for a weekend visit, plan on driving.

How Brossard residents get around

According to the 2021 Census, among Brossard workers with a usual place of work, 27.5% worked in the city itself, 23.7% elsewhere in the Longueuil agglomeration and 48.6% outside it, Montreal included. Two in five (40.5%) spent 30 minutes or more getting there, and 14.1% of commuters took public transit. At the time, in the middle of the pandemic, 32.7% of employed workers were working from home.

These figures predate the REM's opening in July 2023, but they show that a good share of residents earn their living on the South Shore. If your job is in Boucherville, Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville or farther east, the A-30 runs right through those cities. If you head downtown every day, Brossard remains better placed: worth knowing up front.
