Multigenerational living near Beaconsfield, with each generation in its own home
A new semi-detached home near Beaconsfield can also answer a family question: how do you stay close to another generation without living under the same roof?
A multigenerational house, or "bigénération" home as it's often called in Quebec, combines two dwellings in one building. BÉAcité, in Sainte-Julie, presents itself instead as an alternative to the intergenerational concept: each household in its own complete semi-detached home. Here is what multigenerational living near Beaconsfield looks like on those terms, based on the 2021 Census and on what BÉAcité offers.
Beaconsfield, a town of multi-generation families
In the 2021 Census, 2.0% of Beaconsfield households were multigenerational, or 135 households. That's more than in Quebec as a whole (1.4%) or in Sainte-Julie (1.3%). The town also has plenty of families: 43.7% of households are couples with children, compared with 22.7% province-wide, and 63.0% of dwellings have four or more bedrooms.
The age pyramid has an unusual shape. People aged 15 to 24 make up 14.0% of the population, but those aged 25 to 34 just 6.2%, compared with 12.5% in Quebec; the Census doesn't say why. At the other end, the primary household maintainer is 55 to 64 in 25.0% of households, and 75 or older in 14.4% of them. The City speaks of a growing senior population, with more than 3,800 residents aged 65 and over; about 1,100 people there live alone, and the City has adopted an age-friendly municipality (MADA) plan for 2024-2028.
One roof, or a home each?
A multigenerational house has real advantages: closeness, day-to-day help. It also means sharing a building and a lot and, if you convert the house you own now, work that falls under the City's planning rules. Both arrangements can work well; it all depends on the kind of closeness your family is looking for.
BÉAcité's approach flips the logic: each generation has its own home, with its own entrance, garage, garden-level backyard and private garden. The two households stay independent, each owning its house, and upkeep is handled through an all-inclusive maintenance program.
Multigenerational living near Beaconsfield: two models, two paces
BÉAcité's three models meet different needs. The semi-detached bungalow keeps the everyday rooms on one level: 1,006 sq ft on the main floor, as much again in the basement, and a 294 sq ft garage. According to the assessment roll, 34.1% of Beaconsfield houses have just one storey, so the format is familiar. The Duo cottage offers 2,018 sq ft of living space on two floors, or 2,356 sq ft with the optional mezzanine, and the Urbain model, 1,622 sq ft.
Photos of 435 Geoffrion Street also show a residential elevator next to an upstairs office nook: something to raise with the sales director if stairs are a concern.
Close by, though not necessarily next door
Can you reserve two homes side by side, or on the same street? It depends on which lots are available when you start, and only the sales director can confirm it. The site plan shows 50 lots on Geoffrion and Bissonnette streets, with two parks and a retention pond; four homes are ready, several more can be in about four months, and 20 are still to be customized. Ask the question on your very first call. Each household then picks its own model and finishes from the homes on offer.
Even without being next-door neighbours, two households in the same neighbourhood share Vilamo's promenade, designed for pedestrians, bikes and electrified transport, and a commercial strip within walking distance.
What Sainte-Julie offers each generation
For a generation that drives less, a few facts matter. In Vilamo, a commercial strip brings medical services, a pharmacy, a Caisse Desjardins, a public market and restaurants within walking distance, and every home is less than 300 metres from a bus stop. Local public transit in Sainte-Julie is free for everyone, at all times, on every route.
For a younger generation, Sainte-Julie falls under the Centre de services scolaire des Patriotes, with seven French-language elementary schools and the Grand-Coteau high school. On the English side, the Riverside School Board includes Sainte-Julie in the zones of four schools for 2026-2027, and eligibility follows the Charter of the French Language. In Beaconsfield, 66.9% of children born between 2003 and 2015 were eligible for English-language instruction, according to the 2021 Census. For everyone, the town's network of walking and cycling paths runs more than 40 km, and Mont-Saint-Bruno National Park is right next door. Finally, daily life there happens mostly in French: 47.3% of Sainte-Julie residents know French only, so it's worth thinking about what that means for each member of the family.
A home office for the working generation
In May 2021, in the middle of the pandemic, 42.7% of Beaconsfield workers worked from home, according to the Census. That figure has aged: across the Montreal metropolitan area, the share was about 19.6% in May 2025, according to Statistics Canada. BÉAcité's ready homes show three ways to set up an office: a mezzanine fitted out as an office at 405, a closed office behind a glass door at 408 and an open office at 423 Geoffrion Street.
Questions to ask during your visit
- Which lots are available, and which are close to each other?
- Which model suits each household: single-storey, Duo cottage or Urbain?
- Which finish, mezzanine or rooftop terrace options are possible?
- What exactly does the all-inclusive maintenance program cover?
- What timeline would let both moves line up?

Conclusion
Beaconsfield has more multigenerational households than the Quebec average. To keep two generations close without sharing walls, BÉAcité offers its own take on multigenerational living near Beaconsfield: two complete semi-detached homes in Sainte-Julie, each with its own garage, yard and upkeep handled. How close they can be depends on the lots available, so it's the first thing to ask the sales director, at 514-812-9633 or ventes@beacite.com.
