Single-storey home near Rosemère: everything on one floor, minus the upkeep
If a new semi-detached home near Rosemère appeals to you mainly as a way to stop going up and down between floors, start with BÉAcité's bungalow: everyday life fits on a single level there.
A single-storey home near Rosemère is also what residents aged 55 and over described to their town in 2026: a home smaller than the single-family house, easier to maintain, and one they still own. This article goes over what they said, their town's numbers, and then what the semi-detached bungalow in Sainte-Julie offers, and what it doesn't.
A word of honesty first: most of the Rosemère residents consulted want to stay in Rosemère. Sainte-Julie is only one possibility among others, about 52 minutes away by car without traffic.
What did people 55 and over tell the Town of Rosemère?
Adopted on July 6, 2026, Rosemère's 2026-2046 housing policy is titled "Vivre, s'épanouir et rester à Rosemère" (live, thrive and stay in Rosemère). Nearly 500 residents took part in the spring consultations, including a workshop for people aged 55 and over. The policy sums up those discussions this way: participants expressed a wish to move to a home smaller than a single-family house and easier to maintain, and affordability, adaptability and the possibility of remaining an owner were decisive criteria.
The consultation report spells out what makes staying at home harder. Two obstacles come up often:
- having stairs to deal with;
- demanding upkeep, both inside and outside.
Among the expectations noted are homes on a single floor and universal accessibility. The policy itself lists an accessible, safe home among its priorities, giving examples such as single-level living, ramps, railings and safety devices.
Large houses, and a population growing older
Rosemère's housing stock helps explain these wishes. According to the 2021 Census, a dwelling there has 8.0 rooms on average, compared with 5.8 across Quebec; 56.8% of dwellings have eight rooms or more, and 42.7% have four bedrooms or more. Detached houses make up 80.6% of dwellings. In 57.8% of households, the primary household maintainer is 55 or older (47.1% in Sainte-Julie), and 40.4% of owners no longer carry a mortgage.
The Institut de la statistique du Québec, for its part, estimates that on July 1, 2025, 23.7% of Rosemère residents were 65 or older, above the Quebec average of 21.7%. An ISQ projection cited by the town has households aged 75 and over growing from about 900 to 1,300 between 2026 and 2041. In the town's questionnaire, 23% of respondents aged 55 and over said they intended to move to a smaller or better-suited home. Among the seniors consulted, 42% would rather age at home, 20% are thinking of a smaller home and 20% of a private seniors' residence; 18% don't know yet.
The single-storey home near Rosemère that BÉAcité offers
BÉAcité's semi-detached bungalow is the project's single-level model. Its floor areas, read from the plans:
- ground floor: 1,006 sq ft, where daily life happens;
- basement: 1,006 sq ft;
- garage: 294 sq ft, with an outlet for charging an electric car;
- total: 2,306 sq ft.
The ground floor has 9-foot ceilings, and every room gets large windows. The kitchen has a quartz countertop; forced-air central gas heating and central air conditioning come with the house. Out back, a garden-level yard opens onto a private garden. The sales director can send you the detailed plans on request.
Bungalows are among the 20 homes still open to customization, and several customizable homes can be ready in about four months. Ask which ones are bungalows: that is what will set your move-in date.
Less upkeep, still an owner
At BÉAcité, landscaping is complete on delivery, and upkeep is then fully taken care of by an all-inclusive program. The sales director will give you its details, home by home: it's the first question to ask if the upkeep of your current lot is wearing on you.
The program doesn't change what you own: you buy a semi-detached single-family house on its own lot, with its garage and yard. Rosemère's consultation report notes a refusal to become a tenant, and that some participants have reservations about condos or seniors' residences, which they see as limiting their freedom. A semi-detached house is neither. Several lots have no neighbours behind them, and a pool or a spa is still possible.
Basement, stairs, elevator: let's be precise
Single-storey doesn't mean not a single step. The bungalow has a basement as large as its ground floor, reached by a staircase; you simply don't need to use it for everyday life. If your knees or your back are calling the shots, tour the house with your routine in mind: cooking, laundry, storage.
You may have spotted a residential elevator in the photos of 435 Geoffrion Street: that is a house with an upper floor, and the elevator is something visible in those photos, not an option advertised for the bungalow. The representative can tell you what applies to each of the homes on offer.
Staying close to what you know
The consultation report says it plainly: for many, moving out of Rosemère is hard to imagine. Rosemère is itself planning new housing for seniors within its borders by 2046. Conclusion
A single-storey home near Rosemère, in Sainte-Julie, meets the three criteria that Rosemère seniors named: one floor for daily life, upkeep that no longer rests on you, and ownership. It also has limits worth facing squarely: a basement with its staircase, and about 52 minutes of driving, without traffic, to Rosemère town hall. The best approach is still to see the bungalow for yourself before deciding; the four completed homes, at 405, 408, 423 and 435 Geoffrion Street, also give a good sense of the finishes.
